Congratulations to the entire Lakeview school community for being AWESOME adventurous eaters at lunch Thursday, November 10th!
Lakeview nutrition staff are excited to be working with professional chefs to increase the healthy eating patterns of youth through MN Statewide Health Improvement funding. Kitchen staff are receive monthly vegetable trainings and students will explore the new recipes through taste tests.
This month’s vegetable was warm, roasted Brussel sprouts. The results are in:
- 30 pounds of Brussel Sprouts were prepared. The kids ate every last one of them!
- About 450 students sampled the roasted Brussel sprouts.
- Two-thirds voted with a thumbs up, liking them.
- Brussel sprouts were new to many students and they showed great willingness to be adventurous and try something new.
All in all, it sounded like this was one kind of "test" that the students loved taking! Stay on the lookout for this new dish on your serving lines - your school cooks will keep preparing and offering these delicious Brussel Sprouts over the school year, so keep trying them and more than anything... help kids to keep being adventurous in exploring veggies! Next up will be roasted squash in January.
